Let’s Make “Good Trouble” at Schools and Bookstores Across the Country

Calling all educators, parents, librarians, and book lovers!

I come to you with an exciting opportunity and a humble ask. Are you looking for ways to enrich your student’s education and provide young readers with the literacy tools they need to thrive? Do you struggle to find resources that support you and the children in your life? One of the best ways to receive aid is by reaching out and finding your people – that’s why I ask you to consider adding a trick up your sleeve and booking me for an author visit. If you believe I can benefit your school or store, I would love to provide an Author Visit or PD Session to meet your needs in any way possible.

Consider the numerous benefits of bringing an author to your school:

  • Main Character Energy – When an author visits and shares the “story behind the story,” students learn to make real-life connections. They might see somebody from a book who looks like them and realize they can do everything the Main Character does.
  • Writing as a Career – Crazy, I know, but writers have legitimate, amazing, and transformative jobs! They aren’t superheroes or special aliens (though it frequently feels that way); they are everyday people who have a passion. When students meet an author and realize they can also share their love of stories, suddenly that dream becomes more reality than fiction.
  • Read, read, read! – Author visits encourage students to find stories meaningful to them and build literacy skills. A 2023 study conducted by the National Literacy Trust reported that more students who experienced author visits said they enjoyed reading in their free time, compared to their peers who hadn’t experienced one (58.6% vs. 39.3%).

While I have traditionally worked with schools in the past, I’d also love to connect with readers by visiting your local bookstore. It is a pleasure to find book lovers in their natural habitat and share my passion with institutions that also value inclusive children’s literature. If you’d like to see me at your favorite bookstore, email me at thetututeacher@gmail.com, include the name of the shop, and I’ll personally reach out to them to see if we can schedule a visit.

Not looking for an author visit? I offer a wide variety of Professional Development sessions that implement new strategies, resources, and skills in the classroom. Our community is built on shared knowledge, passion, and experience. The greater our pool of resources, the easier it is to dive in and find support. That’s where my love for visiting schools began — the opportunity to contribute to that pool. Whether through Author Visits or PD Sessions, I love getting into the classroom to connect with students and teachers across the country. My sessions are designed to create actionable, effective methods to help you show up for your students and colleagues in the best way possible.

If you’re interested in bringing me to your school or bookstore, please fill out the form above and we’ll connect!

Warmly,

Vera
